Welcome to the Vernon County Sheriff's Department website. As Sheriff of Vernon County, I remain proud to serve the citizens in the county I was born and raised in. My agency is a dynamic organization making constant changes and adjustments to better serve our citizens in an ever-changing world. My administration continually evaluates the way we perform, frequently making adjustments that contribute to reduced response times, effective delivery of emergency services, competent fiscal control, and positive community relationships.
I am particularly proud of the law enforcement facility we constructed and have occupied since 2006. After four years of detailed study through the committee process, the Vernon County Board of Supervisors had the foresight to authorize a facility with the long-range future of Vernon County in mind. Given the great window for construction and the economy, the new facility was completed four |
| months ahead of schedule and over 600 thousand dollars under budget. Due to excellent planning, less than six thousand dollars of the $10.3 million dollar project was expended in construction change orders, something very rare. The public was well served by the previous Sheriff's Office and Jail for over 90 years and the majority of that building continues to serve the public today through other county agencies.
During the past 156 years, the men and women of this department have established an exemplary record of public service as our county evolved from its very rural and humble beginnings. Today, with nearly eleven thousand households, thirty thousand people, 7500 families, over 800 square miles, and 1800 miles of highway, the challenges continue in crime control, but we believe and boast that this is a very safe place to live and raise families.
I hope you will continue to look through this website and that it will help you understand the operations of this department, the duties of its staff, and the responsibilities of the Sheriff. It is a privilege for me to serve as your Sheriff and I look forward to a continued positive relationship with the citizens of Vernon County.
